Zebrafish is a simple model vertebrate amenable to genetics, and genome information and methods of embryo manipulation have been accumulated world-widely. Zebrafish is expected to play important roles in the basic biology research and as model systems of human diseases in the future. The numbers of the mutants and transgenic lines are rapidly accumulating. However, only the researchers, who established the zebrafish strains, are distributing the fish at their discretion, and the system to distribute the strains has not been well established in Japan. This project, a part of the National Bio Resource Project in Japan, is going to establish the system to collect, preserve, and provide zebrafish strains. |
