This gene is identical to Lr34, Pm38 and Ltn and confers stem rust resistance in some genetic backgrounds. Some AVS NILs also have Yr18. Forty-three Chinese land varieties predicted to have Yr18 based on markers had high rust severities. Genetic analyses of four of these landrace (Sichuanyonggang 2, Baikemai, Youmai and Zhangsihuang) indicated the presence of an independent suppressor {11101}. Libellula had an additional 4 QTL and Strampelli had an additional 3 QTL {11139}
