Explanation Plastochrones are shortened and primary rachis branches are converted into vegetative shoots, i.e. rapid leaf emergence and abnormal panicle.Two recessive alleles, pla2-1 and pla2-2, were identified from M2 population mutagenized with N-methyl-N-nitrosourea.PLA2 encodes MEI2-like RNA-binding protein.Recessive alleles, pla2-1 and pla2-2, exhibit short plastochron and conversion of primary rachis branch primordia to vegetative shoot.
