Morphology and Distribution 4
O. granulata complex
Among species in Genus Oryza which are basically aquatic plants, only this group grows on the slope of mountains with no standing water. Consists of two relative species. Non-sensitive to photoperiod and flowers throughout the year.
O. granulata Nees et Arn. ex Watt (GG)
Grows spontaneously in the mountains in Tropical Asia. The one whose seed is larger than 6.4mm is classified as O. granulata, and the one whose seed is smaller than 6.4mm is classified as O. meyeriana, but the relationship is not clear since the variation is continuous.
O. meyeriana (Zoll. et Mor. ex Steud.) Baill. (GG)
Mainly distributed in Tropical Islands. |
Species not belonging to the above groups
Distributed in Africa. This species has very slender culms and seeds.
A small-sized species which is distributed only in New Guinea. Among Oryza species, this is the closest to Genus Leersia.
