What's New!

  • December 16th, 2025:
We created a map showing the locations where wild medaka can be collected (https://shigen.nig.ac.jp/medaka/map/medaka_interactive_map_en.html).

This interactive map shows 164 collection points for wild medaka. These points are categorised into groups such as Northern Japan, Southern Japan, Hybrids, Eastern Korea, China–West Korea and an uncategorised group. The map covers locations in Japan, Korea, China and Taiwan, providing details on latitude and longitude ranges. You can interact with the map by tapping or clicking on the markers to view additional information.
  • Apirl 3rd, 2025:
    Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to invite you to our upcoming collaborative meeting for the Medaka Research Community, taking place in Heidelberg, Germany from July 22-24, 2025.
This meeting is specifically designed for Principal Investigators—ranging from junior group leaders and assistant professors to full professors—who are engaged in Medaka research, as well as for postdoctoral researchers planning to establish their own groups in the near future, and the contributors to the ERC-IndiGene Project that partially fund this meeting.
We hope our gathering offers an outstanding opportunity for the expanding Medaka research community to connect, exchange ideas, and foster new collaborations, paving the way for innovative discoveries in the field.
Early bird registration is open until April 15. To register, please visit: https://meetmedaka.com/registration/
We kindly ask you to share this announcement with any colleagues who may be interested in this valuable networking and knowledge-sharing event. Thank you for your support, and we look forward to welcoming you in Heidelberg!
    Best regards,
Jochen Wittbrodt on behalf of the organizers of the meeting
